Edward Donahue was Clemson's eleventh head football coach, leading the Tigers for four years, 1917 through 1920. He also coached basketball and baseball for two seasons and track for one season.

A graduate of Washington and Lee in 1916, he was an outstanding athlete there, playing backfield on the football team as well as catcher for the baseball team. After graduation, he served as an assistant coach for the football team and was head coach for the basketball and baseball teams.

He guided the Tiger gridders in 36 games, for a 25-12-3 record and a .625 winning percentage. The Tigers went 6-2 in 1917, 5-2 in 1918, 6-2-2 in 1919 and 4-6-1 in 1920.
