YNK was a private club located in Rogers Plaza on US 123, Tiger Boulevard. Opened in May 2007 by Richard Martin and his partner Eric, the club occupied three spaces in the Rogers Plaza mall, divided into a bar, a dance floor, and VIP spaces. The architecture featured open roof trusses, for a techno feel. Eric and Jeremi bought out Richard in April 2008.

The name was an abbreviation for "You Never Know." The establishment played to an international crowd, with the Germans coming in 2-3 times a week, as well as the Aussies and the Scots. The management described the clientele as "a diverse and tolerant group". The club also hosted fraternities and sororities. Foam parties were held about once a month, usually towards the end of the month, and saw 200-300 participants. Theme nights were also held, including Beach night, and 1970s, 1980s and 1990s nights. Other theme nights included ABC - "anything but clothes", Heaven and Hell night, and Singles and Mingles night.

There were 51 different shots on the bar list, and cocktails were served in the appropriate glassware.

Annual membership was $5, and lifetime membership was $25.

Trivia

This location was previously Marshall's in the early 1990s, McP's in the mid to late 1990s, and a short-lived music club named The Joint (which had a neon saxophone in the window) in the early 2000s.

Added this reporter's date on sleuthing out the new business: "Went there with the hottest straight chick in the old Joint..."

[edit] Demise

With the downturn in the economy, the business closed in the winter of 2008. Foam party nights remained popular, but with the onset of cold winter weather, these, too, experienced a drop in attendence and the business was shuttered. A lack of available parking also was a problem. As of July 7, 2009, the retail space is still available for rent. In the fall of 2009, the space is being remodelled as Palmetto Spirits.
