Perimeter Road is the original name for Silas Pearman Boulevard. Constructed originally circa 1961 as a southern by-pass around the campus of Clemson Agricultural College of South Carolina as traditional highway alignments and traffic patterns were altered by the construction of the Lake Hartwell reservoir by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, the road is still generally referred to by its first name, despite having been christened in about 2003 for Silas Nathaniel Pearman, Sr., Class of 1924. Pearman served as a Chief Highway Commissioner of the South Carolina Highway Department (now DOT) for over 15 years, until his retirement in 1976.
