The Outdoor Theater
History
The Outdoor Theater is an outdoor theater located on the other side of the Reflection pond from Cooper Library. Also know as the Amphitheater it was originally built in 1940, as a gift from the class of 1915, and funds from the federal government. The stage is a mix of red, grey, and beige marble with "1915" inset on the surface. The theater's wide grassy steps provides a perfect location for outdoor studying between classes, napping, or just socializing, and in previous years the Clemson University have held graduations within the walls of the Outdoor Theater. The outdoor theater has been renovated twice, first in 1978, and again in 1997.
The Clemson University Tiger Band holds a concert in the Outdoor Theater on home game days. The concert is a must for Tiger fans and students.
The site of the Amphitheatre was once the location of the stockade at the start of the 20th century.
Today
The Outdoor Theater is also often used by many student organizations. WSBF 88.1, Clemson's student run radio station, regularly holds concerts. CLEMSONLiVE shows outdoor movies. Former Republican Party presidential candidate Alan Keyes gave a speech at the theater in 2000. On a beautiful Clemson day, some professors will hold outdoor classes at the outdoor theater.
Construction
A new area of construction broke ground Saturday June 13th, 2009 in between the Outdoor Theater and the Carillon Gardens. The Class of 1960 North Green will feature a terraced green that steps down from the Carillon Garden toward the Outdoor Theater and reflection pond. The site will include new sidewalks, lighting, benches and improved access routes to the area, which will make it easier to move equipment in and out for events.

One-hundred percent of the funding for this project came from private donations by class members. The Class of 1960 has raised $674,000 over five years for their project. [1]
Booking
Below the Carillon Gardens is the Outdoor Theater. In the heart of campus and nestled between the Gardens, Reflection Pond and Cooper Library, the Theater is the perfect venue for your next outdoor event. The Theater seats approximately 2500 on grass and concrete-tiered seating levels. Seating for an additional 5000+ is available on the grassy slope facing the stage.
There is space available on the surrounding sidewalks for concessions and merchandise, though the space is not necessarily desirable for ticketed events due to its open nature. The Theater has ample power and is a great location for movies, speakers and recently featured an ice skating rink.
