  • Tentative football opponents had included hosting Maryland, and playing at Virginia, but neither match is scheduled. The Terrapins had left the ACC entirely.
  • January 1: Clemson, still ranked number 1, meets Alabama, ranked number 4, in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, losing 6-24.
  • September 1: Clemson, ranked number 2, hosts unranked Furman in Memorial Stadium at 12:20 p.m. Football Reunion Day. Tiger’s win, 48-7.
  • September 8: Clemson, ranked number 2, travels to College Station to play unranked Texas A&M, at 7 p.m. on ESPN. Tiger’s win, 28-26.
  • September 15: Clemson, ranked number 2, hosts unranked Georgia Southern in Memorial Stadium at 3:30 p.m., the first meeting between these two teams. The Tigers win, 38-7.
  • September 22: Clemson, ranked number 3, plays unranked Georgia Tech in Atlanta, winning 49-21.
  • September 29: Clemson, still ranked number 3, hosts unranked Syracuse in Death Valley, winning 27-23.
  • October 6: Clemson, ranked number 4, travels to Winston-Salem to play unranked Wake Forest, winning 63-3.
  • October 13: Open football date.
  • October 20: Clemson, ranked number 3, hosts number 16 ranked N.C. State in Memorial Stadium, winning 41-7.
  • October 27: Clemson, now ranked number 2, travels to Tallahassee to play unranked Florida State, crushing the Seminoles, 59-10. The USA Today reports: “No one epitomized the state of FSU football better than one fan at the game, who caught the attention of the camera and, subsequently, the internet for taking off his shirt and picking up Gillian Flynn book instead of watching the game (it appears to be Dark Places).
“The best part about his cameo during this game is that he clearly came prepared for a blowout with a surely more thrilling novel in his hand. Naturally, the internet loved him.”
  • November 3: Clemson, still ranked number 2, hosts unranked Louisville in Memorial Stadium, whipping the Cardinals, 77-16.
  • November 10: Clemson, still ranked number 2, travels to play Boston College, ranked number 17, coming away with a 27-7 win.
  • November 17: Clemson, still ranked number 2, hosts unranked Duke in Death Valley, winning 35-6.
  • November 24: Clemson, still ranked number 2, concludes the regular season by beating unranked South Carolina in Memorial Stadium, 56-35.
  • December 1: In the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship game, played in Charlotte, North Carolina, Clemson, still ranked number 2, defeats the unranked Pittsburgh Panthers, 42-10.
  • December 29: Clemson, ranked number 2, meets the number 3 ranked Notre Dame Irish for the fourth time, in the Cotton Bowl, played in Arlington, Texas. The Tigers crush the boys from South Bend, 30-3.
