Walgreens Drugs

Walgreen's Drugs, a Chicagoland-based chain, has negotiated leases for three parcels on College Avenue in Clemson, the BP-Amoco station on the southeast corner of College Avenue and Tiger Boulevard, the building occupied by Campus Camera since 1988, and the combination laundramat/liquor store building, next to the camera shop. Owners lease the properties to Walgreen's for 25 years, at which time the drug chain has the right to purchase. Construction began in 2008.

As of January 3, 2008, only Campus Camera had closed. By March 8, the gas station tanks were being uprooted. In June, all three parcels had been razed and site preparation was underway. By November 2008, structural steel was being erected on the site for the new drug emporium.

The new business opened on August 15, 2009, and staged a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 17.

Background

The nation's biggest drugstore chain, based in Deerfield, Illinois, with 7,162 stores nationwide in 2010, and reported $63 billion in sales in 2009.
