Sigma Chi, one of the oldest and largest social fraternities in the nation, was founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, on June 28, 1855, when members split from Delta Kappa Epsilon. Sigma Chi had seven founding members: Benjamin Piatt Runkle, Thomas Cowan Bell, William Lewis Lockwood, Isaac M. Jordan, Daniel William Cooper, Franklin Howard Scobey, and James Parks Caldwell. Sigma Chi is a part of the Miami Triad, along with Beta Theta Pi and Phi Delta Theta. Clemson's Eta Psi chapter was founded in 1977. Since then, it has become one of the largest and most recognized fraternities on campus.
