• 1903: Scrimmage begins on Bowman Field.
• 1930: The YMCA hosts a reception for new members of the faculty.
• 1938: As usual, Clemson leaves Presbyterian scoreless in home opener, 26-0. Presbyterian is zero for ten in passing attempts. • 1941: Clemson athletic officials announce that construction on the $104,000 new stadium project will begin soon.
• 1949: In a night game, Clemson rolls over Presbyterian in home opener, 69-7.
• 1954: Section B, the first portion of Johnstone Hall to be completed, is finished this date. (The Tiger, "Dormitory Section B To Open Next Week", Thursday 16 September 1954, Volume XLVII, Number 2, page 1.)
• 1954: "Jim Spangenburg, Baptist minister of students at Clemson, who has become a familiar figure on this campus for eight years, has announced that he will leave Clemson this Friday [this date - Ed.] to take a course of graduate training in counseling. Since August of 1946, Mr. Spangenburg has served the students of Clemson and has helped them in many of their problems. It is with great regret that we learn of his departure." • 1954: Tiger Brotherhood, local service fraternity, sponsors the 2nd Annual Campus Fall Frolic fish fry in the Amphitheatre. Tickets are on sale for $1.25, plates served after 6 p.m. "The Fall Frolic will bring together the students and members of the faculty and administration for an old fashioned get-together. Tiger Brotherhood, as a committee of the whole, is seeking to bring the faculty and students into a closer social relationship. All proceeds from the supper will go to the Tiger Brotherhood Campus Service Fund. Among the many projects made possible by this fund in the past were the telephone at the guard room for local calls, free of charge to the students; and the paving in front of the local post office." • 1955: Clemson defeats Presbyterian in night home opener, 33-0, the same score as 1954.
• 1965: First night of Rat Hop 1965 - held in the "air conditioned University Dining Hall" (Harcombe Commons) by the Central Dance Association, 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Barbara Lewis is the performer, singing, amongst others, her biggest hit "Baby I'm Yours". • 1974: Student Senate run-off elections held.
• 1979: The Supreme Court disqualifies five candidates from last week's student election, ruling that Keith Lang, Peter Everett, Gary Nagamoto, Johnny Porter, and Tom Wilson violated elections procedures by not filing the vouchers with the elections chairperson. All five except Wilson were running for off-campus seats. Wilson was running for the Fike Recreation Center seat. • 1983: The Tigers tie number eleven Georgia in Death Valley, 16-16.
• 1994: Road trip to Charlottesville goes badly. 15th-ranked Cavaliers down the unranked Tigers, 6-9.
• 2005: ABC-TV airs a feature about the Esso Club during the Miami game broadcast. Clemson loses in three overtimes, 36-30.
• 2006: University carillonneur Linda Dzuris rings in autumn with a concert on the 47-bell carillon housed in the tower of Tillman Hall at 5 p.m. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music. Recommended listening spots include Cox Union Plaza, Military Heritage Plaza, Bowman Field, and the Carillon Garden. The concert will take place rain or shine. Visitors are invited to tour the playing cabin following the performance.
• 2006: Clemson climbs back into the Top 25 in the CNN/Coaches poll at 23rd after defeating number nine-ranked Florida State, 27-20, in Tallahassee. FSU drops to 17th. The Associated Press poll places FSU 18th and the Tigers 19th.
• 2007: The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a Greenville native, makes a stop at Clemson during a twelve-county tour, as part of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition's Voter Education Tour for Jobs, Peace and Justice. "The Tiger" reported on September 21 that Jonathon Richardson, Basileus of the Chi Zeta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, introduced the Rev. Jackson, and high-lighted his notable accomplishments.
• 2007: Clemson rises to fifteenth in the Associated Press poll, and is tied with the University of Stupid Chickens at fourteenth in the CNN/USA Today coaches poll.
• 2009: Tigers Who Care, a Clemson University Community Service Group, holds an interest meeting in the Hendrix Student Center David Peebles Room, 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Contact [email protected] for more information. • September 17, 2009-September 18, 2009: Sand sculpture artist Ted Siebert creates a three-dimensional display on the lawn near Tillman Hall in connection with the Third Annual Tiger Shag.
• 2011: Unranked Clemson plays number 17 ranked Auburn in Memorial Stadium, winning, 38-24. This snaps a twelve game losing streak to that team, with Clemson’s last win coming in 1951.
• 2016: Clemson, ranked number 5, plays South Carolina State in Memorial Stadium, shutting them out, 59-0.
